Session 1: Introduction to Radix Body Psychotherapy
Tuesday, 15 March 2022 (09:00am - 12:00pm AEDT) or On-Demand
  1. Gain knowledge of the long-standing history of somatic work in the therapeutic setting.
  2. Given the historical context, understand how Radix work relates to other somatic theories and applications.
  3. Be able to define the basic principles underpinning mind-body therapeutic work.
  4. Gain some understanding of their own relationship to their bodies based on this theory.
  5. Understand the complexity of embodiment and its relationship to presence.
  6. Recognise the physical signs of dissociation or lack of embodiment.
  7. Develop preliminary skills in how to observe the body.
  8. Learn how to identify signs of disembodiment at both the energetic and body structure levels.

Session 2 : Exploring ‘Pulsation’ and it’s significance in somatic work

  2. Develop an understanding of how pulsation relates to the functioning of the ANS.

Session 3: Working with arousal and windows of tolerance

  1. Understand how levels of arousal and the capacity to contain, build and tolerate them, impact clients’ capacity for awareness and contact with self and other.
  2. Develop skills in working to build these levels in clients, as appropriate.
  3. Recognise physical signs of low levels of arousal, hyper- and hypo- arousal in the body.
  4. Increase understanding of the relationship between levels of arousal and capacity for emotional experience and expression.
  5. Explore and understand their own Windows of Tolerance / Capacity for arousal.

Session 4: Working ‘functionally’ and ‘structurally’

  1. Learn the difference between working with the body functionally and structurally and the interdependence of these two approaches.
  2. Understand the Reichian segmental approach.
  3. Identify signs of blocks in the oscillation of these segments.

  5. Identify and understand the significance of working with the ocular segment, especially with clients with a history of developmental trauma.

Session 5: Exploring ‘grounding’ and ‘centering’ as therapeutic interventions

  2. Identify the absence of physical and energetic boundaries in self and others.

Narelle McKenzie is the Director and a Senior trainer of the Australian Radix Body Centered Training Centre and the Radix Institute, North America, which offers a three-year training program in Radix Body Centered Psychotherapy. She is a registered psychologist with over forty years of experience working in private practice with adults, adolescents, families, couples and groups. Narelle has a Masters in developmental psychology and extensive experience and training in psychotherapy and psychology. As part of her private consultancy, Narelle has led experiential and training workshops on Embodied Psychotherapy throughout Australia, the USA and the UK.
